Portrait: 4th…

This weekend marked Cobalt’s and my four month anniversary of being engaged! Awwww cute! :D The lady who was kind enough to take this picture noticed that we were struggling to get a good portrait on our own (see last Wednesday’s post to see our failed attempt. Hahaha…). Anyway, happiness. This weekend, my friends and I went to look for bridesmaids dresses and found two that we really like! Success. Wow… I am getting excited… :)

Cell Phone Picture: Sad Face

Went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2 at midnight last night! Great times! Though there was one sad thing… I didn’t get to see it with Cobalt. So today’s picture shows me being sad about that. Also, it was taken on my friend’s iPhone so that is why it looks so nice and flashy.

Creepy Clouds

We have been getting a LOT of rain here recently (wish I could send it all to Los Alamos, NM) so I snapped this picture one night. I was about to go to bed when I saw the moon all creepily obscured by clouds. It’s one of me and Cobalt’s favorite moons (the cool moon if you ask me or the “Lon Chaney” moon if you ask Cobalt…) so I had to take a picture of course. It turned out really cool if you ask me!

Baby Pepper Photoshoot

Again I am showing you pictures from my garden when everything was wee! This was when one of my Mayan Love Peppers finally sprouted. I was so excited that I gave it a little photoshoot. Anyway, I really like this picture because of the grass. It just looks really cool… (Don’t worry baby pepper, so do you…) Now I have three baby pepper plants. I guess I should give them another photoshoot sometime. Maybe once they get into their big kid pots…

Portrait: Denver Chalk Art Festival

Today’s picture comes from this year’s Denver Chalk Art Festival. I love going to the Chalk Art Festival and seeing all the neat things people can put into sidewalk chalk art. Always so fun. This year it was really really hot and there were tons of people milling around so we didn’t actually stay too long. Before we escaped though, I managed to snap this picture. I brought my 50 mm lens for my Nikon D80 instead of my 18-70 mm zoom lens so I was unable to get any pictures of the full chalk art images. I think it was kind of fun to have it that way though because it forced me to be creative and really think about what I wanted to photograph instead of just clicking away at all the cool art (which is in no way bad… obviously… I just couldn’t do it with this lens…). Anyway, this is one of my results. I like it a lot. What do you think?

Cell Phone Picture: Something American CONTEST RESULTS!

Hey everyone! It’s that time! Time to find out who won Cobalt’s and my little cell phone contest from the 4th of July.
Here’s how it worked. On the Fourth of July, we texted a bunch of our friends this message:
Challenge! In honor of merica’s birfday, take a cell phone pic of what you think best embodies America. Text it to me by midnight tonight. The winners will be posted on Potassium’s blog this Friday
and then we got a BUNCH of awesome pictures. It was SOOOOO fun! You guys are amazing! I’m thinkin’ we’re going to have to do another contest soon. So don’t be sad if you didn’t get to participate this time.
Anyway, let’s get onto the results of the contest already!

First things first:
Grand Prize

Her shirt says “Yo soy legal” in case you can’t read it. Awesomeness. We loved it. :)

First Runner Up

Going classy with some American history there. We history lovers certainly appreciated it. I also love the addition of the flower.

There was a TIE for Second Runner Up

We just really loved the photograph here. It is just a really great picture and well composed (plus it has our nation’s capitol building in the background… That’s pretty patriotic if you ask me…)

This one is just pure hilarity…

Third Runner Up

This picture was really creative and fun. Great Work! :D

The rest of the pictures… so awesome…and in no apparent order

The caption: “America in Speedo Form!” Disturbing yes, but hilarious? Also yes. :)

Gotta love Independence Day…

Ahhhh the wide open spaces of America…. We got a few of these entries actually. Very nice, very nice. :)

Ohhhhh we Americans sure do love to eat. The caption here: “Look at the food. And the prices. ‘Merica…”

Caption: “Big blue sky, big city, and vast interstate. AMERICA.” :)

Sad… isn’t it funny that most “American” things aren’t even made in the US? How does that work?!

Mmmmmm Fourth of July food! This is actually similar to the picture that Cobalt would have entered had we not been judging the contest…

A different take on Fourth of July food! You want Chinese food instead? You got it! Gotta love ‘Merica and our options for food!

What are we excited for!?

Wow! Cobalt and I seem super happy! Why would this be?!?! The actual reason is that we were about to see The Civil Wars live but I’m going to say that We are excited because tomorrow we will post the results of our Fourth of July Cell Phone Picture Contest. Stay tuned! It’s going to be an awesome/epic post full of hilarity and excitement! You won’t want to miss it for the world… :)

Black and White: Green screen or not?

Today’s picture comes from the 4th of July! Cobalt and I didn’t have time for our annual hike so instead we just headed up to Boulder Falls for a quick bit. It’s pretty much the shortest hike you could ever go on but look at the result! CRAZY FALLS!!! Woooo. Reminded me of my family’s yearly vacations to Yosemite so that was happy. Anyway, I brought along the Nikon D80 and my 50 mm lens (prolly should have brought the zoom lens, crazy Potassium…) and we took a few fun pictures at the falls. Crazily, they kind of look like we photoshopped Cobalt and me into a picture of the Boulder falls. I promise these are real and we were not in front of a green screen!

Underneath the water…

Hey everyone! Hope you guys had a great 4th of July weekend! Did anyone do anything crazy? :)
Today’s picture is from the Civil Wars concert Cobalt and I went to last week! It was neat! Not only do I love their music (I sang along with every song…), but I love them! They were so cute together, singing their songs and being a little silly and flirtatious all at the same time. Cracked me up… I had a lot of fun… totally worth it to be standing for 3.5 hours…
Anyway, I highly recommend their music (not quite sure what genre they fit into… maybe AWESOME! If you are curious, click here where you can listen to/download their free EP!) as well as going to see them in concert (soooo fun). Definitely one of the best concerts I’ve been to in a while.
On an unrelated but still exciting note, Cobalt and I held a cell phone picture contest for the 4th of July. We got so many fun pictures from our friends so look forward to that come Friday…
