And now, we wait…

So I am kind of ridiculously excited for my two friends T and B because their baby boy L is due to be born TODAY. T and B are some of Cobalt’s and my really good friends and we can’t wait to meet their new little one! Good luck T and B. We’re so excited for you!

Picture: the onesie I decorated for L at T’s baby shower a few weeks ago. It is shark themed, of course. :)

About Wedding Wednesday: It got put on hold mostly because I only have a few topics left to talk about so I am spacing them out. Also still waiting for our professional pictures… If there is anything you want to know that I haven’t already talked about, please tell me in a comment and I’ll get right on that. :)

I find the name ‘fascinator’ fascinating…

It’s been almost a month sine we got married. How crazy is that?! Our apartment is still a total disaster though. Maybe this weekend we can finally get things together.

Anyway, for today’s post, I am going to talk about my veil/fascinator that my awesome friend The Chocolate Pudding made for me. I think it was about a year ago, TCP and I were looking at all the crafts at the Taste of Colorado festival and we found a booth dedicated to tiny hats with veils on them. We liked them but I knew I wanted some sort of birdcage veil/fascinator thingy for my wedding. TCP said she could try to make one for me and thus began our quest to make the best veil/fascinator ever!

In May, I got various types of fun French netting and a comb from Britex Fabrics in San Francisco. Then I ordered some pretty anenome flower clips off of Etsy to go with the netting. Due to life craziness, it wasn’t until the Tuesday before the T and I left to go to CA for the wedding that TCP and I had time to meet up and work on the concept of what the veil would look like. That is what that top picture is from (and yes… we were working on my veil/fascinator in a bookstore… points if you can guess the bookstore…)!

Fast forward to two days before the wedding. After the bachelorette/hen party, TCP brought over the almost finished veil/fascinator and I had a prewedding panic attack. The veil/fascinator looked great but I was freaking out so much that I wouldn’t like it that I couldn’t even decide if I liked it. TCP told me that she was just going to finish it and then I could decide on the wedding day whether or not I wanted to wear it.

Fast forward to the wedding day, I got to see the finished product and I fell in love with it. Originally, I was planning to keep the veil/fascinator on for the ceremony and pictures and then take it out and leave the flower clips in for the reception but I loved it too much to part with it… Yay! Thanks TCP for making pretty much the best veil/fascinator ever and thanks for putting up with a crazed Potassium while you did it. :)

And finally, a picture that I stole from my friend T from the reception (Thanks T…)

One more thing. My super awesome grad school friend PV is getting married this weekend to the lovely PD. So excited for you guys!!!! :)

And now the typical Q and A time. What did you do for your veil (if you are married)? Would you have a veil (if you’re not)? Tell me your thoughts on veils… Or tell me something different. Whatever you feel like doing is fine with me. :)

Epic Weekend!

Wow… Cobalt and I had a great weekend! We drove to see his family for the fourth of July and decided to spend the rest of the weekend frolicking with his family, catching up with some of our friends we haven’t seen in a while (we hadn’t seen some of them in almost 4 years!), […]

So many weddings!

So Cobalt and I have been busy: this past weekend we made pasta and then the weekend before we went to see our friends A and T get married! What a great night! The ceremony was adorable and heartfelt. A made her own dress which is freaking awesome. This first picture shows off her dress as she stands all ready to get married to T! What a gorgeous bride! :)

During the ceremony, they sealed love letters in a box with a bottle of wine to be opened on their 10th anniversary. Look how cute it was! 10 years from now will be exciting!

Finally, I love this cake picture!

After all the cake shenanigans, we danced the evening away and that was awesome! Congratulations A and T! :):):):):)

Pasta Party!

Yesterday, Cobalt and I went over to our friend L’s house to hang out with L and our friends T and C for a day of adventure. We made homemade pasta. L charged us with two tasks: making mushroom ravioli and spaghetti carbonara. So we divided into two teams – Cobalt and T on the spaghetti and C and me on the ravioli while L started on the ravioli filling. That picture up there is my sad looking mummy ravioli. He surprisingly didn’t explode when we cooked him so I guess I patched him up pretty well! C said he was delicious… :)
Anyway, it was really fun/tasty! Here are some more pictures:

First we have C mixing the ravioli dough:

Next we have Cobalt and T working on making the spaghetti… The pasta machines were of course the best part…

Once the spaghetti was ready to be cooked, everyone switched over to team ravioli and we had quite the assembly line going on (someone painting the dough, someone filling the dough, someone making the little raviolis, etc). Look at C’s cutting skill!

And two hours later, we have the final dishes:

Spaghetti Carbonara

Mushroom Ravioli

Oh man… it was so delicious… Have you ever made your own pasta? What is your favorite kind of pasta to make/eat? Did you do anything amazing this weekend?

Portrait: Congrats, Grads!

Last week, I went to see a bunch of my friends graduate with degrees in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology! Two of them got bachelors degrees and two of them got PhDs! This is a picture of my friend Chris, who is now a Doctor of Philosophy. Yes… He is now Dr. Chris! Anyway, I brought my Nikon D80 and 18-70 mm lens to the ceremony and worked on my people photography skills. In general, I have really been trying to work on my photo composition skills so the graduation ceremony was good practice for that too!
While shooting the graduation, I realized I get lazy with my autofocus setting on the D80. Sometimes, I try to rearrange my shot so that I don’t have to change the focus point on the lens instead of changing the focus point to match my shot. That seems a little silly when you think about it! I wonder if I should make myself go back to manually focusing all my pictures in order to get myself in the habit of composing a shot and not worrying about whether I can get my subject exactly in the middle of that “focus here” dot… :-/

Just a reminder…

Potassium LOVES sharks… and these sharks are adorable! They look like best friends! :D I love that the one on the right looks like he’s saying “HAI friend!” to his friend. Happy. I could be really obnoxious here and tell you to go say hi to all your friends… and I think I will. So go do it. Friends need appreciating. I’ll start. Thank you friends for being my friends! :)
Anyway, I obviously did not take this picture. My friend Paul sent it to me! Thanks Paul for remembering my shark love! I hope you are all enjoying your Thursdays. :)

Portrait: Egg Dog!

Annnnnnnd we’re back (I think)! Barring any complications from crazy busy weeks, I think we can get this blog up and running again! Woot! So let’s dive right on into it with this hilarious dyed Easter egg. :)
This past weekend, we had an epic party. It consisted of 1) eating tasty snacks, 2) playing an Arrested Development trivia quiz (the Never Nudes Unite, my team, ended up winning by TWO points! COME ON!!!!!), and 3) dyeing Easter eggs!!! Wow… it was a full night. I believe no one even had a chance to think about getting bored. So this picture obviously comes from the Easter egg part of the evening. This is my friend Ali’s egg! Ha… I love that it looks like an egg dog, especially with its tongue sticking out like that!

Yeah… my friend is crazy…

This picture cracks me up. I love how Meghana is popping out from behind the pillar and Janet is standing there like yeah… I know… She is ridiculous… ;) I also really like Janet’s hair in this pic. :) Not sure what else to add to today’s post… I guess if you want to know more, you should leave me a comment! :D
Can’t believe today is already Thursday… Does anyone have fun plans for this weekend?
