Private Joke

I’ve been to a lot of weddings recently and I have to say that I think my new favorite part of weddings is the first dance. I love watching the bride and groom have their little private moment together with whispered jokes and comments about how the day’s going – or whatever they talk about. I really don’t know and that is the best part. It’s the mystery that really catches me. It is just so special because it kind of is a display of what a relationship should be like, right? Full of those little private moments with them giggling about whatever and us having no clue. Makes me feel all warm and bubbly inside to be invited to take part in witnessing it all. :)
This is a picture from the most recent wedding we attended. Congrats George and Sonya! :D

In other news, we’re supposed to get our first epic snowstorm of the season tonight/tomorrow. Fun snow pictures tomorrow? We’ll have to see about that… :)

Cell Phone Picture: Back to cupcakes

Here we are. Back to cupcakes a few days before mole day (Chemistry joke…. a mole of anything is 6.22×1023 of it (so 6.22×1023 chickens = a mole of chickens… that’s a LOT of chickens!). Sunday is 10/23, mole day. In honor of mole day, the chem department here always makes cupcakes of the elements. For last year’s cupcake picture, check out my very first post ever. I can’t believe a full year has gone by. And what a year it has been! I’d say it’s been a pretty good year even despite all the craziness going on that kept me from posting on here as often as I wanted. Cobalt and I got engaged (it’s weird to see him listed as my boyfriend in my old posts), I am a year farther into my grad school career (a few years left still…), I learned how to crochet (some fun pictures of that next week I hope), my photography skills have (hopefully) improved over the past year, etc. So much… I can’t wait to see what the next year is going to bring (I’ll give you a hint on one thing… a wedding!!!! Yay!). Have a great weekend everyone! :)

Black and White: Stopping by a thread

Cobalt and I have been doing more traveling (I know… it never stops…) and on our way back this time, we stopped and walked around the small town of San Luis, CO just to spend some time out of the car. Anyway, on this stop, this stop sign here was creaking away because as you can see, it is barely connected to its pole anymore. It’s hanging by a thread. I thought it was perfect for a black and white picture…
On a random note, this blog is almost a year old! Holy crap, I’ve been slacking! :p

Leaf Kicker

A while ago, Cobalt showed me some movie screenshots that he thought I might want to emulate with my photographs. One of the movies, Citizen Kane, had some shots with the camera in the floor so you could see all the floor leading up to the characters in the shot. I thought it was a really interesting idea! So here is a picture where I am trying to emulate that. Cobalt and I were hiking around southern Ohio when he started to kick at something on the ground. I literally just put my camera on the ground and took the picture. I had no idea how it would turn out but I think it turned out neat, don’t you think?

Portrait: Fairytale wedding

I know Erin has already posted this pic on her blog but because I took it, I think it’s justifiable for me to post it here too. Anyway, this is a pic from Erin’s wedding last weekend, which Cobalt and I were fortunate enough to attend. It was awesome and this picture is also awesome. I am not sure how much of the awesomeness actually belongs to me though; it looks like Erin and her new husband Brian are doing most of the work… I just got lucky. Congrats on your wedding Erin and Brian! It was a wonderful day and I am sure you two will have a wonderful life together too. So happy we could be there to celebrate with you guys!

Anyway, I sincerely apologize for the lack of posting I’ve been doing recently. It was in part due to the fact that I was on an epic trip to the east coast (first went to a conference in New York, next went to visit my grandparents, and then ended up here at Erin’s and Brian’s wedding…) Now that that’s over, we’ll see about getting more regular posts in, shall we?

Black and White: That’s one small step for… wait a minute…

That’s right. Cobalt and I went to the moon for Labor Day weekend! Awww sweet! Yeah… it was freakin’ awesome. I took my Nikon D80 with me and took a picture of Neil Armstrong’s footprint on the moon for you all to see.
Okay… that is majorly false. But Cobalt and I did do some pretty fun things for Labor Day weekend. Be prepared for some super fun pictures coming your way soon and very soon (though maybe not so soon seeing as I am still super busy and I actually like to take my time in choosing and preparing a picture for you all to see on this blog. But anyway…) of all of our travels. Let’s just say that I have now seen a LOT more of Colorado than before Labor Day weekend. But enough with the advertising of all the fun and on with the picture because that is what you guys really care about anyway, right?
So no, this was not taken on the moon and it’s not even Neil Armstrong’s footprint. I don’t even know whose foot this print belongs to. I do know that it belongs to someone who once walked along the bank of the South Catamount Reservoir near Pikes Peak because that is where I took the picture. Hurrah! I think it looks neat. What do you guys think?

Rest in Peace Severus Snape

Sad days, friends. My venus fly trap, Severus Snape, has died. I got him back in 2008, before I was even in grad school and he’s been with me through all the craziness that has happened since. And now he’s gone. I think he had a pretty good life, chillin’ inside on my window sill while it snowed outside in the winter and sunning himself outside in the summer. Once I had to rescue him during my first year in grad school because my crazy neighbor decided not to notice that her dog was chewing on my plant! :p Last winter though he suffered a fall from my second floor balcony when the wind got too rough for him and I thought he’d pulled through okay but maybe not. Maybe this has been coming for a long time. Saddddd… I loved that plant. Sorry if I failed you Severus but I hope you’re in a better place now. Thanks for being such an awesome friend during some fairly crazy years… :( Last night, Cobalt and I had a candlelit vigil for Severus, pictured here.
Also sorry to you fellow blog readers, apparently planning for a wedding while simultaneously trying to work on getting my PhD is a lot of work! ;) I’ve been so busy that I haven’t really had time to take pictures, besides this one, which Cobalt and I took last night in honor of Severus. Maybe he was sad because his namesake died in Harry Potter 7 part 2 this summer…
