Welcome to Friday everyone! I hope it has been a good week for you guys… I know I am definitely looking forward to this weekend! :) For today’s cell phone picture, I have this fish light from Wahoo’s Fish Tacos. I was eating the delicious bonzai burrito last week with some friends when I looked up and saw these super cute fish lights! I love them! I also love this picture – it looks like the fish is radiating light in all directions! Nice job, Wahoo’s!

Cell Phone Picture: Tilt Landscape!

Whoa… This picture turned out crazily. I took this picture on Monday morning on my way to work. I really liked the clouds hanging low over the houses in the background and the wet streets (all that snow from last Friday’s post had finally melted… although it snowed again yesterday so we have a fresh coat of snow everywhere) just looks really nice to me. It felt very “new” to me and it made me wonder if it was secretly spring and we’d just had a nice spring rain (oh wait… we get spring snow here in Boulder… :p). It was a good feeling and a good way to start out the week, I think. Part of me wonders if I was half asleep when I took the picture though… That might explain why everything seems strangely skewed (especially that lamp post)… Cell phone pictures are supposed to be easy to take, right? :) I hope you all have great weekends!
Cell Phone Picture: Snowy Sunset

I have had the opportunity to live in places with beautiful sunsets but I have to say that there are few sunsets that are more beautiful than a sunset over the snow covered mountains. It snowed a lot on Sunday and then was so cold for the rest of the week that the snow just stuck around. I was torn because it was so beautiful but also so cold. So on my way home from work the other day, I managed to slip my gloves off for just long enough to take this picture on my cell phone.
Cell Phone Picture: Tickets for Two, Please!

Last night, Cobalt and I got dressed up all fancy and went to go see the musical Next to Normal at the Denver Performing Arts Center. Next to Normal is a story about a family dealing with mental illness but the music and the story are both incredible – despite the emotionally intense theme. I highly recommend the show to anyone who gets a chance to see it. It was really fun evening and probably just what we needed since we have been reading some plays together and dreaming about going to see more plays. So I would like to thank my friend Chris for giving us the discount code to make going to this performance possible. :)
I hope you all have great weekends! I know I have some fun plans up ahead…
Cell Phone Picture: A shark, a shark, high up in the sky

with a tail as big as a kite…
Today’s picture is the top of our family Christmas tree – topped with who else but Poncho! You should recognize him from a few Fridays ago when he was hanging out with Ed the skeleton in Cobalt’s car. Anyway yes, I thought I would do a festive picture for today seeing as the holidays are… well… right now!
The winter holidays are a busy time for me. First of all, I was raised Christian so I have a lot of Christmas traditions I like to follow. Many include seeing family and friends and catching up on each other’s lives. Many others include a lot of singing. On top of that, I love love love giving presents to help people in need. Buy a book or a cuddly stuffed animal for a child in need’s Christmas present? Um… yes. Give a large tip to a waitress or waiter in a random restaurant somewhere on a random evening? Exciting! Donate 25 lbs of food to feed a family for the holidays? Sign me up. It just gives me so much joy to think about the looks on people’s faces when they see my gifts to them. I love playing a part in cheering up the world. As much as I love cheering up the world, I think it is important to think about those who have lost loved ones during the holiday season. So I also spend this time remembering and honoring those who have died and offering the gifts of love and compassion to those who need it.
Happy Holidays!
Love, Potassium
Cell Phone Picture: Don’t Forget the Shark Treats

Today’s picture is a picture of my travel buddy Scrarmpl (pronounced Skrarm-pel). Scrarmpl and I have traveled to many states (I used to have an exact number but I forgot now) together. He’s pretty much a stuffed shark version of a traveling gnome basically. Once he even got his own seat on an airplane trip to Ohio (no one was sitting there… I didn’t buy an extra ticket…)! He thought that was pretty sweet. I hope some day I’ll be able to take him on an extra long plane ride to somewhere outside the country…
Anyway, yesterday, Scrarmpl and I were on a plane together again and this time, he really wanted to eat my complementary peanuts. I said no because I wanted to eat them. Luckily, I brought along some goldfish crackers for the trip so I gave him some of them. That actually sounds a bit better for him anyway seeing as he is a shark and all…
I hope you all have great weekends!
Cell Phone Picture: Someone Needs to Find Nemo!

Happy Friday everyone! Today’s picture comes to us from Boulder Gas… I was walking around Boulder (if you can’t tell by the gorgeous flatirons hiding in the background) one day and I passed this Boulder Gas only to see that someone had lost their Nemo! Poor Nemo was sitting all dejected in the middle of the gas station as you can see! I thought it made for a bit of a silly picture… Nemo lost at sea… er… the gas station! I hope they found him soon. I know I’d hate to lose my Nemo…
Cell Phone Picture: Ready to Go!

Because Cobalt and I just got back from an epic road trip to Oklahoma and because we seem to enjoy going on epic road trips in general, I thought I would share some of our road tripness with you guys. On every road trip we take, we take Poncho Same (the blue cow colored shark in the picture) and Ed (the skeleton hiding behind Poncho) with us. They get to hang out on the rearview mirror and watch the road go by with us! :) On this last trip we took, Poncho and Ed were hanging from a coat hanger hook in the back of the car with us. I learned that Ed’s dancing is actually kind of hypnotic when viewed from the side…. awesome…
This picture was taken when I just got this cell phone in August of this year. We got the phone and then hopped in the car to go visit Cobalt’s family. I was so excited about my new phone that I took pictures/played with the sketchpad app pretty much the whole ride down there. I really like the way this picture turned out. Poncho looks so excited to be in the car and the clouds in the sky look nice too!
Cell Phone Picture: Desk Friends

Welp… nothing totally super awesome happened in Cell Phone world this week so you get a picture of all the friends on my desk in lab! What a collection! :) Each animal has its own story as to how it got there. Don’t get too excited; the stories range from “Yay! I bought him at Target!” to “Yay! I got him at a HUGE truck stop on I40 in New Mexico” and everything in between (alligator farm, present, pub quiz prize, etc). Names: Starting with the creepy Freud in the right hand corner, we have Pico the green monster with no arms, Pedro Armadillovar (guess where his name is from…), Eduardo the walrus, Percy the winking alligator, Pablo the shark in the egg, and two dinosaurs which actually don’t have names… Sad days! Anyway, they certainly make me happy every day. I should note that Freddy the mitochondrion lives on my desk too but he wasn’t made at the time this picture was taken… Poor Freddy…
Photoshop
I actually did photoshop this picture but mostly because that certificate on the wall had my name on it and such. Ahhhhh Clone stamp. What a friendly tool you are… :) I also cropped the picture a bit to get rid of any unwanted/boring shadows. Yay!
I have to give lab meeting today! Yikes! Hope it goes well… I hope you guys are having good Fridays and are planning exciting weekends! :D Look forward to some more AWESOME pictures next week! I am already excited! :)
Cell phone picture: Don’t forget to vote!

This is Freddy the stuffed mitochondrion. Yes, I made him. And also yes. He voted. You see that sticker he has? It means he went over to a polling place (or looked at his mail in ballot) and figured out who he wanted running our country/state/county/city and what issues he liked.
Okay people, here’s the thing. If a stuffed mitochondrion can register to vote, comprehend the crazy “legalese” in which the ballot issues are written, and then somehow hold a pen (or pencil or whatever you use in your state) to vote for the things he thinks are important then so can you!
You can still vote early in Colorado until the end of today (until 3 pm!) so get out there and do it (or wait until election day if you don’t have an early voting option)!
Okay… I will get off my soap box now. But really, vote. Have a great Friday and a great weekend!
