We’re married!!!

Yay! We’re married!!!

Quick post today because we just got back to Colorado and our house is completely full of wedding presents and everything else that we brought back from California. We are about to have a fun week where we put the house back together again! What a fun newlywed activity.

Anyway, I really just wanted to give you a summary of our wedding in terms of our favorite thing and something we wished had gone better.

Without further ado….

Favorite thing

Cobalt and I felt overjoyed and blessed at the people who were at our wedding. Sure, not all of our family/favorite friends could be there but the people who did come just made it so special for us. We have been continuously talking about how great it was to have a lot of our favorite people in one spot. Not only that, but the cooler thing was that everyone got along. Actually, on our wedding night, Cobalt and I got a bunch of picture texts from our friends who were having an afterparty in honor of our wedding and in the pictures were friends from different parts of our lives hanging out together. First off – how cool and special is it that people who are important to each of us are now friends with each other?! And second of all – how AWESOME is it that our friends had an afterparty after our wedding? We thought it was awesome anyway.

Something sad

Well not really actually. I’d say the wedding was pretty much perfect. I’ll have to talk more in detail about it later. Anyway, the one thing that we are sad about was that we didn’t get to dance as much as we had hoped. Specifically, I am sad that I didn’t get to dance to the cupid shuffle in my wedding dress! Haha… No seriously… I’m kind of depressed about that. We had it on our playlist but it was so far down on the playlist that we had to leave before we got to it…

Picture: In case you are not my Facebook friend, here is the GORGEOUS wedding teaser from our amazing photographer Holly Carlyle. Can’t wait to see more! :) Also check out my dress that my mom made. Looks good, right? I love it.

I don’t know if I am back yet… but there is a lot that I want to talk about on here so maybe I will be back sooner rather than later.

Now that the wedding has happened, everything is up for grabs! Is there something you’ve been dying to know more about? Ceremony? Guest book? First dance? Bachelorette party? Silliest thing Holly had us do for our wedding pictures? Bridesmaid gifts? Our rings? My veil? Seriously guys, I am an open book now. :)

One more thing… My blog friend Lauren is getting married this weekend! Yaaaaay! I hope it is AMAZING Lauren! :):) It’s been fun to do all this wedding planning together!

ONE MONTH UPDATE!!!

Wooo! We’re getting down on the number of Wedding Wednesday posts I have left! Last week marked our 1 month mark and now we are into DAYS on that little calendar over there (—–>;)!!! So I thought I’d catch everyone up on what’s going on. First – Second Wedding shower First, some background into how […]

Epic Weekend!

Wow… Cobalt and I had a great weekend! We drove to see his family for the fourth of July and decided to spend the rest of the weekend frolicking with his family, catching up with some of our friends we haven’t seen in a while (we hadn’t seen some of them in almost 4 years!), […]

Prom recap!!!

First things first. ONE MONTH UNTIL OUR WEDDING!!!!!

Whew! Short post today… You’re all probably grateful for that since my last posts have been pretty epic. Anyway. Prom shower! It was a lot of fun. Everyone got dressed up super fancy (except L’s husband T who decided that he stayed home from the prom to play video games… hahaha). My other friend T lamented that the rest of us girls were wearing sundresses and she was the only one in a full out prom dress… IT WAS HOT! We spent the majority of our time in this little shelter at the park which was in the shade. Anyway, we got pizza and cake and then Cobalt and I were crowned prom King and Queen (our surprise). Do you like our crowns/candy scepters? Maybe more pictures later… Thanks to a different friend L (I gotta come up with a better system for names…) for taking these awesome pictures!

Just in case you are wondering what happened about 2 seconds after this picture was taken, I’ll show you Cobalt’s crazy face in the next picture.

In other wedding news, SEND US YOUR RSVP POSTCARDS! Seriously… :-/

In OTHER wedding news, second shower this weekend! Exciting!!!! :)

Pre-evacuation and what followed

Picture: Flagstaff fire on Thursday. If you look closely you can see the spot fires which are what remained of that giant smoke plume I posted on Wednesday…

I thought I would write a post about the pre evacuation we had last week now that everything has calmed down (a little… wedding in a month! Tons to do for lab and wedding and etc!! Also, remind me to post about what I have been up to in lab lately… I think it gives good insight into why I have been so insane lately…). Anyway… yes. We got pre evacuated last week. This means that we had to have everything ready to go in case the Flagstaff Fire decided to head down the mountain and into the town. At any point, we could get the reverse 911 call and be asked to leave our house.

I have never had this experience before though Cobalt unfortunately has… in fact, his house or a house he has lived at (i.e. his mom’s house) has been in a pre evacuation zone three times and has actually had to evacuate twice due to forest fires. We have already decided that while living in the mountains is pretty, we are done.

So, anyway, when we got the pre evacuation notice on Tuesday afternoon last week, we went upstairs to start packing and I found I had a bit of a dilemma. I’ve lived in four different states and have moved almost every year since I was 18, so I am really good at packing everything to move to a new house. I am also pretty good at packing things for trips. However, packing to evacuate is a different thing all together. It’s kind of like packing for a trip except that you also have to pack everything that is emotionally important to you (like a keepsake or something) and everything that is necessary for life (like your renter’s insurance policy which will pay for you to get new stuff if your apartment burns down). So in that way, it is sort of like packing to move your house… except you can’t pack EVERYTHING. The other awkward thing was that we have started to get some really nice gifts for our wedding and we have been collecting things we want to bring to CA for the wedding too. So allllll of that had to get packed too. We could barely navigate through the living room to get to the kitchen when it was all over…

Unfortunately for Cobalt and me, we actually ended up having to pack both for evacuation as well as for a trip because his grandpa died on Tuesday (in addition to the fire starting on Tuesday… Tuesday was not a good day…) so we had to pack to go to the funeral on Friday. There was a lot of just throwing random things in suitcases for the pre evacuation and throwing random outfits into a suit bag for the trip. That was all in the living room too.

Let’s fastforward to Wednesday, when we were still under pre evacuation notice and we had to get ready to fly out for the funeral on Thursday. This is when we decided we should probably move the pre evacuation stuff somewhere safe just in case we got evacuated while we were gone. We loaded up my car with all of the stuff deemed important for evacuation and drove to a friend’s house just east of the pre evacuation line. They put it all in their garage and we headed home to discover that the pre evacuation notice had just gotten lifted! We headed back to their garage and grabbed our stuff, which remained in the living room until we got back from the funeral on Saturday… the upstairs is still a mess though because both of us have been too tired/busy to unpack anything…

The Flagstaff fire is now almost 90% contained (as of Sunday afternoon, when I wrote this) but Colorado is still pretty much on fire. We have had our fireworks canceled this year and anyone found in possession of fireworks could get charged with arson… :-/ The worst of the fires is in Colorado springs; the Waldo Canyon fire has been by far the most devastating fire I have seen in a long time… :( So sad… Keep praying/hoping/etc for rain!

Picture: Cobalt’s grandpa teaching him about picture frames in his frame shop.

A word about the funeral… It was really sad (obviously) but also awesome to hear all these people honoring Cobalt’s grandpa’s life. He was such a good man… We will all really miss him. :( It was really nice to be surrounded by Cobalt’s extended family, even though it was for a sad occasion. I just loved how good it felt to be there surrounded by such a loving group of people…

I am so excited to be officially a part of this family in almost a month!

Have you ever had a week where you were just deluged by craziness? What happened? How did you deal with it?

Next up… more craziness! Our prom wedding shower! I need to acquire the pictures between now and Wednesday…

Prom prom promenade…

Wow… It’s hard to believe but next week, we will have ONE MONTH until our wedding. That is SO exciting (can’t wait) but also scary because there are sooooo many little details left to plan that life and grad school have decided to not give me time for… :p So we’ll see how this last […]

Who you gonna call?!

Cobalt and I ran some errands yesterday (bridesmaids’ and groomsmens’ gifts acquired!) and we found this amazing claw machine! All it had in it were Stay Puft and Slimer from Ghostbusters! Cobalt happens to be very good at claw machines and Ghostbusters happens to be his favorite movie of ALL TIMES so within 2 minutes of me taking this picture, he had gotten us a brand new Slimer! I think it’s that one in the top left hand corner…
Anyway, what are you all up to this weekend? Something fun? What is your favorite movie/what would make you the happiest to see residing in a claw machine?!

How fortunate…

So Tuesday nights Cobalt works for Geeks Who Drink. It’s a pub quiz company. Really fun quizzes! Look it up and see if there’s one near you. I highly recommend it (and not just because Cobalt works for them…). Anyway, so Tuesday nights he goes off to stump people with the quiz and I have a night to myself in our house to do whatever I want (dance party anyone?! ;)). Since last Tuesday night was spent sadly and frantically making a presentation for my annual committee meeting (grad school thing – your boss and two other faculty members listen to you talk about your work over the past year and give you suggestions/make sure you’re on track for graduating etc etc etc… sliiiiiightly intimidating?), I decided to make the most of this Tuesday night. First I made myself an epic feast (okay, it wasn’t that epic… but it was still delicious…) and then I decided to try out the pattern Cobalt and I found for making the felt fortune cookies we had in mind for our wedding favors. Turns out I actually had blue felt and green embroidery thread that are pretty close to our colors so my trial run pretty much shows you what the actual favor could look like. I like them! I think they look pretty neat. Now all we need to do is come up with what we want the fortunes to say… Thoughts? Potassium and Cobalt 2012? Or something sillier than that? What do you think of green fortune cookies with blue thread to go with these ones? Are you anti-fortune cookie? Tell me all your thoughts on this matter…

In other wedding planning news, the invitations are ready to be printed! Great job T for getting them ready right on time. :) Cobalt is (hopefully) headed to Kinko’s tomorrow to print a test invite and then it will be time for stamp and address acquiring! :)

Fabric shopping!

Short wedding post today due to insanity continuing in life.

Anyway, this weekend, my mom and I are going to go fabric shopping for my wedding dress (and veil, if you count French netting as fabric)! I am really excited to spend the day with my mom and to finally pick out the fabric for this dress! We are also doing one final fitting with the muslin dress to make sure I like her corrections from last time and then… she gets to make the dress! Should be a good weekend. Updates next week! :D

In other wedding planning news, Cobalt and I have planned our “honeymoon” in that we have decided we are going to go ziplining the day after our wedding before we have to head back to CO and our respective jobs. Booooo time off why are you so short? I am excited that we will get some fun and exciting “honeymoon”-like time together anyway. :) Hopefully we will get to have a real honeymoon sometime in the nearish future!

Have you ever been ziplining before? I am excited now but I am pretty sure I will get nervous when I actually get up there… What is your idea of the ideal honeymoon? For Cobalt and me, it’s a joint trip – first to New York City and then to Paris. One day…

About the picture: I know this isn’t ziplining but it is still a picture of me and Cobalt having fun and there is a rope and some trees in the picture so… I say it works. :)

Transparency

Last week, Karyl tagged me in a blog post. Basically, each person tagged had to answer a specific question. Mine was: “What do you look forward to in your marriage?”

I thought about this all week last week. Not that I’m not looking forward to anything… more like I was trying to figure out what will be different about being married. I know that things will be different but Cobalt and I have been together for so long now that it’s hard to nail down exactly what. So I thought a lot about what changes when you get married: the breaking off from your families and forming a new unit, coming up with new traditions, etc.

Then Cobalt and I met with our premarital counselor/pastor last weekend and he talked to us about this idea of being transparent to each other. We were talking about learning how to better communicate our feelings to each other and our pastor told us that we are becoming the safest person in the whole world for the other person. That it’s okay for me to open up to Cobalt and that it’s okay for him to open up to me. That we can be totally transparent about our feelings and our beliefs and that it’s okay. It’s safe. Cobalt won’t stop loving me when I am feeling fragile or angry and I won’t stop loving him when he is feeling frustrated or hurt. And I think that is what I am most looking forward to in marriage, learning how to be transparent to Cobalt. Makes me feel all warm and bubbly inside. Makes me feel safe to know that he’s the one I get to finally open up to…

In other wedding news, we have officially paid off the photographer! Kudos to her for making us a contract where everything is due BEFORE a month before the wedding so we can get her checked off before we have to start paying everything else off in July…
Also, the invitations are almost done. Cobalt and I had to decide on some fonts for T, which we did this weekend. Hopefully we can get those printed off soon.
ALSO – we are starting to get registry gifts! I am excited to try out Natalie’s Gift/thank you note excel file and excited that Cobalt and I already purchased our Thank You notes.
